Machu Picchu Seen Through the Eyes of Fernando Astete

This is a project born by chance through the meeting of two individuals, Professor Lorenzo Cantoni Adine Gavazzi. It turned into a prosperous venture into the world of Machu Picchu.

The UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites at USI - Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano/ Switzerland) has launched “Machu Picchu Seen Through the Eyes of Fernando Astete”, a project to increase awareness of the cultural and natural values of Machu Picchu, and of the sustainability challenges it faces, based on the experience and archive of the anthropologist who has directed its archeological park for 35 years. The project is carried out in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in Anthropology of Health (Biosphere and Systems of Heal) at the University of Genoa (Italy), the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura de Cusco (Peru), and USI’s Iconoteca dell’Accademia di Architettura Mendrisio.
