Community development in Chad

Backgraund

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has had a relationship with various grassroots movements of the Chadian civil society since 2007. Together with colleagues from the ‘Université du Tchad’ and representatives of the Christian and the Muslim faith community, we would like to develop adequate instruments to promote basic development in the neighborhoods, towns and villages. The research activity should reveal which instruments already work well today and identify potentially suitable instruments that are not being implemented at current. The situation in Chad is such that there are few instruments available for community development. Participatory processes have not been sufficiently tested and explored and there is no systematic training of specialists.

Objective

Collecting basic data that allows us to develop tailor-made training concepts and support sustainable development.

Expected Benefits

  • In target country: Professionals are trained according to the criteria and standards of social work to allow them to implement the participatory approaches and accompany participation processes. In the discourse on sustainability, social issues should increasingly play a role.
  • In Switzerland: Enabling the transfer of know-how between the Swiss universities of socio-cultural animation (Lucerne, Lausanne, Geneva & Sieders). Increased cooperation among Swiss universities in general with further development of methodological and theoretical approaches.
